What is NFC, Near Field Communication?
resolution / answer
Much like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies, Near Field Communication (NFC) allows wireless communication and data exchange between digital devices such as smartphones. However, NFC utilizes electromagnetic radio fields, while technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi focus on radio transmissions.
NFC is a subclass of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology designed to be used by devices that are in close proximity to each other. NFC technology allows devices to establish communication by touching them or coming close to them, usually within 7.62 cm (3 inches).
The printer contains a passive NFC devices that contains information that other devices can read but does not read any information itself.
An active NFC devices (such as a smartphone) can read the information on a printer's NFC tag, but the tag itself does nothing but transmit the information to an authorized device.
Active NFC devicess can read information and send data. Active NFC devicess, such as smartphones, are not only able to collect information from NFC tags, but also exchange information with other compatible phones or devices. Active devices can even change information on NFC tags if authorized to make such changes. To ensure security, NFC often establishes a secure channel and uses encryption when sending sensitive information.
NFC use cases
