Ford uses a wristband equipped with RFID technology to remind employees to maintain social distance
To prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the factory, Ford is conducting a test that uses "buzz" wristbands to help employees maintain an appropriate social distance. According to reports, when two Ford employees wearing wristbands get too close, the wearable device vibrates. Currently, 12 employees in the design and manufacturing facility in Plymouth, Michigan have volunteered to participate in this test.
It is reported that the device tested by Ford uses short-wave Bluetooth radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to detect the proximity and clustering of other devices. When it detects that another wristband is within the specified range, the device will immediately vibrate and send color-coded information to the screen to remind employees to maintain an appropriate distance. In addition, employees and their managers can track these close contacts through daily reviews to help them recognize the potential dangers to be avoided.
At present, Ford has temporarily suspended all automobile production, but the Troy design and manufacturing plant is producing medical protective masks. Other factories are also producing ventilators and masks. To find the best way to keep employees away. Although no specific plans have been announced yet, Ford may use these devices to restart car production as early as next month.
