Application blockchain in RFID sensor system

The Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems, based in Dresden, Germany, announced plans to apply the blockchain concept to the development of radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor systems for logistics.

According to this concept, the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonics Microsystems in Germany hopes to use the blockchain solution to realize the data generated by the “decentralized storage” radio frequency identification sensor. The Institute develops a variety of hardware and software solutions for its customers and uses simulation techniques to analyze their individual needs.

Although the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonics Microsystems in Germany has not yet introduced products that integrate blockchain technology, they are expected to showcase them at Trade Fair for Intralogistics Solutions and Process Management. A set of radio frequency identification sensor software system solutions. The conference will be held in Stuttgart, Germany on March 13-15, 2018. It is also the largest trade fair for logistics industry in Europe.

According to a press release issued by the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonics Microsystems in Germany, they believe that blockchain technology has great potential for supply chain data management in the areas of automation and logistics processes, not only to improve logistics delivery speed. Avoid fraud and errors, and reduce scrap and costs.

Dr. Andreas Weder, head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonics Microsystems in Germany, said that if the data generated by the RFID sensor is stored in the blockchain, then all participants in the entire supply chain may track these Data, he said: "Our RFID sensors measure physical parameters such as humidity, vibration or temperature and then wirelessly transmit them to a data reader."

It is reported that the German government is building a legal framework for blockchain technology management to further embrace this emerging technology.
