Nike is entering the connected world with the launch of a limited-edition sneaker with an integrated NFC chip. The work of Nike sneakers follows the same model of NFC technology. When you purchase a sneaker, you can see the NFC tag on the NikeConnect logo on the bottom of the heel of the shoe. Now scan this NFC code with the NikeConnect app on your smartphone. Tap the screen sensor and access exclusive content such as upcoming Nike events, New York City meetings, and the chance to buy new Nike sneakers.
Nike also designed a pair of sneakers with anti-theft features. Nike is embedding the anti-theft security features of RFID technology into their sneakers. Anti-theft security mechanisms play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and authenticity of footwear and identifying counterfeiters. Simply put, Nike's return and exchange policy can identify whether the returned sneakers are their own.
Before Nike's anti-theft cards were released, it was easy for counterfeiters to copy or duplicate their security cards and return fake shoes. Now, anti-theft cards contain RFID chips and cannot be copied, at least they are less difficult to copy.
The reason that RFID tags fight against counterfeiting is: each RFID chip has its own globally verified unique UID, which cannot be cloned, and the chip has memory to store all traceable information, helping Nike officials to trace their original products. The RFID chip also contains an asymmetric encryption algorithm to obtain a ciphertext that is irreversible in itself, and it is concluded that it cannot be cracked by a cloner. All in all, these characteristics of the anti-theft card allow Nike officials to quickly judge the authenticity of the genuine product.
